How we will deliver on our mission
Organizations that are perceived as closed and non-responsive will be much less likely to have the trust and support of a community than those which share information openly, listen and respond to people’s concerns, and show that they care about the community and are committed to its development. By listening and engaging, we believe SPACE will also be better placed to identify and proactively respond to emerging community issues.
We believe that there is no simple solution to success and that, so it is in community engagement for development. It is a rewarding venture-for the wider population- but achieving it does not come without challenges that often tempt development partners to make short cuts through preferred means; often referred to as workable solutions that build on what has worked in other countries or communities even with the total understanding that communities are complex and dynamic entities that can react in a variety of ways towards development interventions.
Until development partners understand and accept that there is no surety that what works in one context will be readily transferable to another, or that following ‘good practice’ will always produce the desired outcome, development of our communities will continue to remain an act of proposing successive ideas to combat lessons learnt from failed interventions. SPACE takes a long-term view in measuring the success of community initiatives and we will continue to put communities in the forefront of our interventions to maximize success and achieve durable solutions.
SPACE will remain a trusted voice for the families and communities we serve and we use our trust and influence to consistently amplify the views of our communities at the local, national, regional and global level. We use a human face to tailor and deliver our advocacy efforts without compromising on human dignity and provide a platform where communities will hold their leaders accountable while working on a day-to-day basis to overcome hunger, injustice and human suffering. We use multi-pronged advocacy approaches to keep our communities informed, influence policy change, advance social change, maximize our resources and deliver our programs.
Evidence based and unbiased results are keys to recording our successes. The allocation and utilisation of our resources and the impact of the work we do will always be informed by evidence.
